“I feel honoured to have my work recognised along with that of other talented artists that I admire and who provide a constant source of inspiration both for me and my team”

Quique Dacosta has been awarded by their Majesties the King and Queen of Spain the Gold Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts 2022. This award celebrates the “avant-garde, Mediterranean, Extremadura-born and yet universal tradition” that this chef embodies, as stated by the Minister of Culture and Sport, Miquel Iceta.

During the award ceremony, which took place in the BALUARTE Congress Centre and Auditorium of Navarra, in Pamplona, the afore-mentioned Minister of Culture and Sport, Miquel Iceta, the president of Navarra, María Chivite, and the Mayor of Pamplona, Enrique Maya, witnessed how other artists, such as actors Antonio Resines, Emma Suárez, Carlos Hipólito and Adriana Ozores, singers Rosario Flores, Manolo García and Pau Donés (posthumously), film directors Álex de la Iglesia and Montxo Armendáriz, flamenco dancers Antonio Canales and Sara Baras, soprano María Bayo, fashion designer Andrés Sardá, philosopher Emilio Lledó, and international composer Hans Zimmer received their awards.

After being given this award, Dacosta expressed his satisfaction out of the work both he and his team have been doing for the past thirty years: “I feel honoured to have my work recognized along with that of other talented artists that I admire and who provide a constant source of inspiration both for me and my team”, he stated. The chef added that he feels proud of “representing the gastronomy, cuisine and hospitality sectors thanks to this award that will doubtlessly motivate us to carry on with more enthusiasm.” “My team is an essential part of my life: without them this award wouldn’t have been possible. This award also goes to those suppliers, producers, farmers, stockbreeders, and fishermen who make huge efforts every single day so that we can have the best tools to tell our stories”, he concluded.

Dacosta has been awarded this medal only a few days after launching Cooking Beauty 2022, the new season in the Quique Dacosta Restaurant (Dénia) in which he embarks on a process of self-discovery by taking diners into a journey that moves their senses and triggers their emotions. This is his way to keep delving into the avant-garde, fantastic, and moving aspects of gastronomy that move his diners’ feelings and emotions.
