Quique Dacosta is taking an about-turn in his main culinary argument this season, freeing himself from what he built before, placing special prominence on imagination and fantasy, all while maintaining the importance of the product and complicity with his region.

The intent is to provide more than a culinary experience, making a direct appeal to the gaze  and sensitivity of guests regarding this season’s creations

Dacosta introduces Self Portraits, his culinary proposition for 2019. Here, he expresses freedom from everything built up until now, with an intense gaze provoking fantasy and imagination, all while maintaining the non-negotiable value of the product and complicity with his region.


"Self Portraits is a gesture, an attitude and a farewell to monotony, to the monopoly we ourselves have created, that now, more than ever, needs our imagination to keep evolving", the chef assures his. He hopes that diners will discover themselves through the dishes he has created with his team this year.

"This season's dishes will definitely become anomalies in my discourse, as opposed to previous years, but they will also become new great truths. This year, we are providing a portrait of everyone: the team, the diners, and myself," he specified in reference to his new culinary proposition.

Dacosta appears non-conformist and with a great zeal to evolve: "Sometimes I end up hating my own creations. I always experience that intimate borderline idea, and this is why I think it's time to explore other pathways. The years pass, they end, new years begin, along with new challenges and observations of what we do and of ourselves. And what we seek to express and be. We have gained wisdom and experience, and now we are more authentic, more ourselves, leaving obstacles behind to only be our truest self,” he continued to explain.

"Every year, when we open the restaurant, the creative process has already been carried out. However, that is not the case this year. Right now, we have the contextualized idea of what Self Portraits is, but we're still feeding the spirit to create that moment of fantasy and surprise," he declared regarding the expectations revolving around the inauguration of the new season at Quique Dacosta Restaurant.

Imagination, fantasy, conceptual genius, irony, provocation... These are the main tools the chef will be using this year to give self portraits to the guests he invites, now more than ever, to give free rein their own person as it stands before themselves.
